The Future Technology Platform (FTP) is a service that offers a test platform for researchers and developers to work with advanced and prototype architectures.

Getting Access

An institutional Academic Cloud account is required to access the FTP. This includes employee accounts of the University of Göttingen, the Max Planck Society, or any other affiliated institutions but unfortunately excludes student accounts or self-registered Academic Cloud accounts with your private email address. If your organization or instution does not use Academic Cloud services, you can send an inquiry here.

Once you have a compatible account, it must be granted FTP access by our team. Please contact our support with a subject like “Future Technology Platform access request” or directly use this link to send a pre-configured Email.

You can login to the systems using ssh to connect to the FTP login node, after you uploaded your public key to Academic Cloud. For more information, please see the SSH documentation of our main HPC system, which is separate from the FTP, but the initial steps (installing, generating keys and uploading them) are the same. If you are already using our main HPC system, you can skip these steps.

ssh <academic_cloud_account>@login.ftp.hpc.gwdg.de -i <private_key_file>

Note

Access will be disabled automatically for any account that has not logged in for six months. Don’t worry in case you miss such a deadline, you can always contact our Support to get your account re-enabled.

After login has been disabled for one year, your FTP user home, which is different from the campus-wide home directory associated to your Academic Cloud account or any other HPC project user’s home directories (u12345), will be deleted.
